This book documents the story of  how a simple yard sale art purchase led to a twenty-five year search through 20th century world history. Wanting to know more about the artist than just her name required traveling back through time to uncovered the story of Hertha Furth's extraordinary life and her place in art history.

This book is the biographic telling of what the author discovered about the mysterious life of a Jewish Viennese artist who was born at the time of the great art movements of the early 1900s. Art Nouveau, Secessionism, Expressionism, and Art Deco influenced Hertha's artistic development. Her bold attitude and "wild" artistic ways ultimately played a major factor in her survival. In the 1920s, believing that her artistic future lay elsewhere, Hertha Furth left her indulgent life in Vienna and emigrated to the United States.

Hertha's life was deeply affected by world events, personal tragedies, and her interaction with fascinating and accomplished people. She lived in an environment where family and "friends of the family" had names such as Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, Edmund de Rothschild, or the great American chess player, Edward Lasker.

Brief biographies of over thirty historically significant individuals and  their connection to Hertha's life and art are included in Artist Lost/Heiress Denied. The ideas and accomplishments of these fascinating people made scientific, cultural, and political impacts that remain pertinent into the 21st century.

Although a successful commercial artist in the 1940s, and a respected expressionistic artist in mid-century America, Hertha Furth disappeared from the public eye by the 1970s.

With over forty of Hertha Furth's  paintings, drawings, and sketches in print for the first time, this 172 page book, Artist Lost/ Heiress Denied  brings recognition to an extraordinary artist and historic figure.
